A recent visit to St. Petersburg, Florida – an upbeat peninsula overlooking Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico – left me awestruck at the beauty (and trendiness) that murals can provide when they flood a city with color. St. Pete is known for its thriving art and music scene, its white sand beaches, and its craft breweries – but its murals should not be ignored. And they really are impossible to ignore, delightfully ambushing you around every corner of the city. A shifty parking lot can be transformed with a paint brush and a large dose of creativity, and it’s admirable how a city can support artists from all over the world in their crafty pursuits. Here is a collection of my favorites, all inspired by wildlife in some form or another. Well done, St. Pete; I can’t wait to see what your artists come up with next year.
